Some Best Tricks

About Kik & Your Kik Password

Happy Tip Tuesday everyone!
We've been getting some great questions about Kik recently, and our tips this week answer two of the most popular ones:

1. A lot of you have asked why our app is free. And also how we've kept it ad-free. We're glad you asked :) . It all comes down to one belief ... we believe that everybody should have access to fast, simple, and personal communication. You can read more about why our app is free right here!

2. If you receive a message asking for your password, it won't have come from an official Kik account. In fact, we'll never ask for your Kik password - promise! So be smart on Kik (and all your apps) - don't share your password or personal information! (And if someone does ask for your password, please let us know!)

Naming Kik & Copying Messages

We've got two very different tips for you today:

1. We get quite a few questions about the name of our app: Where did the name 'Kik' come from? What does 'Kik' mean? How do you pronounce 'Kik'?

Well, we love to share how we got our name! Here's how it all happened ...

A few years ago when we were trying to come up with a name for our company, we made a list of different words that describe how you move stuff from person to person. We landed on 'kick' and in a moment of brilliance, decided to drop the 'c'. And that's how we became Kik! (You pronounce it just like you would 'kick' a ball!)

2. Copying Kik messages is super quick and easy (where you paste them is up to you)!

On iPhone: Tap on the message bubble you'd like to copy > tap Copy.

On Android, Windows Phone 7 and Symbian: Hold your finger on the message bubble you'd like to copy > tap Copy.

On BlackBerry > Select the message bubble to copy > click the menu button > click Copy Message.

Saving and Sharing Pics

Happy Tuesday everyone! (And if like us you're affected by the "Frankenstorm", it's a very soggy Tuesday!)
With Halloween just around the corner, you might start getting fun costume pics from your friends. Today's tips are all about saving and sharing those pictures on Kik:

1. First you'll need to open the picture you've received, so you're seeing it in full-screen. You'll be able to save it from here:

on iPhone and iPod: tap the Save button in the top-right corner of the screen

on Android: tap the picture

on Windows Phone 7: tap ... in the bottom-right of your screen

on Symbian: tap the download arrow at the bottom of your screen

on BlackBerry: click the menu button

2. If you get a pic you want to share with the rest of your friends, just tap the Forward/Send To button right from the conversation. On iPhone, iPod and Windows Phone, the button will be in the bottom-right corner of the message. On Android, you'll find the button in the top-right.

Whatever you're doing for Halloween this year, we hope it's awesome (and we hope you're safe after Hurricane Sandy)!

Confirming Your Email

We've heard it asked before - why do I need to confirm my email to complete my sign-up? Great question!

By confirming your email address, you can be sure you'll receive important Kik emails (like a new password) when you need them!

Not sure if you confirmed your email when you signed up for Kik? There's a really easy way to check! Just go to Settings > Your Account > Email. If it says Email is Unconfirmed/Not Confirmed, now's the perfect time for you to confirm it :)

Make sure your email address is correct and tap Email is Unconfirmed/Not Confirmed > Yes. We'll send you an email message with a link to confirm your account.

If you need to change your email address, or have any other questions about confirming your email, our Support Center's got you covered.

iPhone 5 & Profile Pics

iOS

Tip #1: Got your hands on the new iPhone 5? Check out our latest update in the App Store - Kik is now optimized for your bigger iPhone screen :)

Tip #2: If you're new to Kik (welcome!) and haven't set your profile pic yet, you'll see a banner at the top of your conversations to remind you to add your picture. Just tap the banner and you'll be taken right to the Settings screen so you can choose and set your pic!

Have a great week everyone!

Tip Tuesday On a Wednesday?

Maybe it was the long weekend, or the turkey hangover, but whatever the case, we completely missed Tip Tuesday yesterday! (It was Canadian Thanksgiving this past weekend so we were all indulging ourselves with some delicious food!)

We're going to make it up to you with tips to use some fun hidden emoticons:

Tip #1: Have you accidentally stumbled upon comb face before? Type : and E (has to be an upper case 'E') to use this hidden emoticon. Perfect for those occasions when you want to send a smiley with a moustache!

Tip #2: Android, Symbian and BlackBerry users will already have seen this one, but for our iPhone and Windows Phone 7 users ... type (KIK) to send the Kik 'k'. Don't forget to include the brackets and type 'KIK' in upper case!

All About iOS Notifications

iOS

Happy Tip Tuesday! Last week we featured some tips about hidden features in our Android app. This week we're gonna share some tips on setting up your Kik notifications on an iOS device:

Tip #1: Did you know there are two sets of notifications for iOS? One set that controls what happens when you receive a new message when you're already in the app, and another set that controls what happens when you're outside the app. Check out this FAQ from our Support Center; it tells you all you need to know to get your notifications working :)

Tip #2: Using an iPod and wondering why you can't turn on the vibration notification? It's not a bug in the app - promise! We've made it so you can't turn this on as iPods don't have this functionality. You'll be able to turn on this setting if you're using Kik on an iPhone.

Android

It's a two-for-one special for our Android users today! We've got a couple of handy tips about some features you might not have discovered yet:

Tip #1: Did you know you can view a timestamp for your messages by simply holding your finger on a chat message bubble?

Tip #2: Or what about this ... did you know you can use your enter key to send messages? Now ya do ;) Go to Settings > Chat Settings > Enter Key Send.

All About Groups

It's a group themed Tip Tuesday! Did you know you can have a group conversation on Kik? You can invite up to nine of your friends to join you in a group chat!

Tip #1: So just how do you start a group conversation on Kik? Our Support Center's got you covered with an FAQ that tells you exactly how to invite your friends into a group conversation.

Tip #2: Group chat's over and now you're ready to leave the group. But how? You can leave a group in exactly the same way you'd delete a conversation: we've got an FAQ for that too :)
Happy Kik'n!
